The season premiere of The Bachelor saw surprises and meltdowns galore, but who would have guessed that Sharleen Joynt from Ottawa would have made the biggest impact on Juan Pablo Galavis?
Indeed, the Canadian opera singer set herself apart from the sexily dressed, bubbly bachelorettes on Night One, as she opted for a subtler approach to win the Venezuelan heartthrob's affection.
Admiring the “elegant” 29-year-old for her worldliness (she currently lives in Germany) and her demure lilac column gown, this year's Bachelor was quite taken with the shy chanteuse and awarded her the first rose.

Though mature Sharleen seemed keen on taking things slow, other bachelorettes were not so discreet.
Lauren H., 25, was sent home packing after a tearful, awkward meltdown, in which she confessed about a broken engagement that left her inconsolable. Kylie, meanwhile, thought she heard her name during the rose ceremony and rushed forward to claim her prize, only to realize that Juan Pablo had actually called out “Kat" (dejected Kylie was later sent home).
Legal prosecutor Andi and pediatric nurse Nikki also appear to have caught the eye of our Don Juan; we suspect these two are the ones to watch for the upcoming season, which promises lots of kissing, plenty of crying, a trip to Asia and a teary-eyed Juan Pablo walking out on an interview (!).
The next episode of The Bachelor airs Monday, Jan. 13, at 8 pm on CityTv.
